There is no finer conduit of music available to consumers today than the Boulder 3050 (303.449.8220, www.boulderamp.com) power amplifier. Priced at $205,000 per pair, the 445-pound monoblock features five enormous potted transformers that help deliver a staggering 1,500 watts of pure class-A power. The sophisticated biasing circuitry inside the 3050 keeps its current draw to around 150 watts at modest levels, increasing as the music demands. However, each amplifier requires a dedicated 240-volt line, so most buyers will need to consult an electrician before plugging in a pair of these monstrous amps.
