An alternative to truck-based SUVs and crossovers, the 2013 Audi Allroad (www.audiusa.com) offers an SUV profile in a car-size package. Based on Audi’s A4 station wagon platform, the Allroad has a starting price of $40,000; equipped with every available option, it costs about $55,000. The Allroad will not climb rocks, but the Quattro all-wheel drive enables the vehicle to handle nearly any type of weather. The Allroad’s aggressive-looking fascia and flared fenders may exaggerate the vehicle’s capabilities, but the 2-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine generates a respectable 211 hp and 258 ft lbs of torque. In the cabin, leather upholstery and brushed aluminum trim are standard features, and wood trim is available as an option.
