Winding its way along the iconic white-sand beaches and aquamarine water of Hawaii’s fabled Kona Coast, Kohanaiki has long been considered a sacred place for family and friends to come together.
In Hawaii, ohana means family, and it’s an ethos that runs as deep at Kohanaiki as the very lava flows that have dotted this ancient land for millions of years. While the desire to belong to this exclusive private community has never been stronger, it’s the abundance of social activities and annual events that continue to set it apart.
With so much to see and do across the sprawling 450-acre oceanfront resort, to kick the summer off in style, Kohanaiki’s annual Summer Ho’olaule’a celebration continues to be one of the many hotly anticipated events of the year.
This summer the 10-day celebration kicks off on July 1, bringing an array of activities that will keep the whole ohana busy. Drawing in more than 350 members annually, adrenaline enthusiasts can partake in everything from canoe races and triathlons to soapbox derbies and fishing tournaments.
For members looking to master a new skill set, from concocting the perfect Hawaiian mai tai recipe at a cocktail class, learning how to string a traditional Hawaiian lei to ukulele lessons or trying your hand at Gyotaku (fish painting), each activity has been designed with maximum fun for the whole family in mind.
As summer starts to wind down, September marks the beginning of Wellness Week. Wellness is always top of mind in the Kohanaiki community and there’s no shortage of offerings to awaken the mind, body and spirit.
Put your endurance skills to the test at a hot hula fitness class or learn how to incorporate healthy recipes into your repertoire via daily cooking demonstrations.
As your wellness journey continues, you might want to indulge in sound meditation or connect body and soul at a sunrise ceremony to help create a sense of balance and healing. Of course, you’ll also find a variety of traditional wellness offerings on property, from daily yoga practice and Pilates to acupuncture.
Come December, you’ll feel a buzz in the warm Hawaiian air as Celebration Season officially commences at Kohanaiki. One of the most exciting times to be a member of this legendary locale, the season culminates with one of the biggest fêtes of the year at Kohanaiki’s annual New Year’s Eve party. Not only is this the place to see and be seen on the Kona Coast, but from live music and wining and dining alfresco to an epic fireworks display for the record books, this is one event you don’t want to miss.
As a new year rolls around, golf lovers and food-and-wine connoisseurs come together to celebrate another one of Kohanaiki’s most anticipated events at The Q.
Inspired by the Bing Crosby Clambake (now known as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am), this now legendary three-day golf tournament started by PGA commentator Mark Rolfing and former PGA player Ben Crenshaw, celebrates some of life’s most important things: good friends, great food and top-notch entertainment.
Each year, members let the good times roll and are paired with a pro for a round of golf by day followed by extravagant food displays, top-shelf drinks and entertainment by night.
By far one of the most popular events year after year, the panel discussion with visiting golf pros continues to be a major draw for members and continues to attract the attention of the Golf Channel.
Home is where your ohana is, and with a little something special to be found at each and every one of Kohanaiki’s events and activities, these are the moments and memories you and your family will savor for years to come.
