This year is the 140th anniversary of the founding of the S.T. Dupont brand. It is also the 140th anniversary of the fire that destroyed Simon Tissot Dupont’s carriage company and prompted him to diversify into manufacturing luxury goods. To celebrate the former event, the company has released the 1872 Special Edition Ligne 2 (www.st-dupont-usa.com), which, when flipped open, produces the ping that always has distinguished the brand’s lighters. The Ligne 2 is priced at $2,700 and limited to 140 examples. Each is cast in bronze and engraved by master engraver Frédéric Krill. According to S.T. Dupont, Krill spends 35 hours on each lighter before it is polished and plated in rose gold.
