FrontRunners: Utility Player

The Swiss Army Knife has been worth its weight in gold to generations of soldiers and adventurers, and now Bonfort SA (+41.31.311.90.90, www.bonfort.ch), a Swiss producer of jeweled accessories, has given the implement its due with the Collection Victoria, a limited release of gold- and platinum-covered examples of the ubiquitous utility tool. Bonfort partnered with Victorinox, the company that has supplied pocketknives to the Swiss army for more than a century, to create knives in two styles: a 3.5-inch-long version for men, which features 11 functions and 21 carats of pavé diamonds, and a 2.9-inch-long women’s version with seven functions and 4 carats of diamonds. Prices for the collection’s 120 pieces—which Bonfort insists are equally as rugged as their less radiant counterparts—range from $33,000 to $108,000.
