Jackie Robinson’s 1955 and 1956 World Series Glove
Breaking baseball’s color barrier in 1947, Jackie Robinson is revered as much for his patience and perseverance as for his playing prowess. An iconic symbol in the struggle for racial equality, the Brooklyn Dodger would eventually have his number 42 retired by all of the teams in Major League Baseball and have an annual observance held in his honor. A small but important part of that history is the glove he wore during his only World Series victory, in 1955, and again when the Dodger’s returned unsuccessfully in 1956. The monumental mitt sold through Steiner Sports in 2013 for $373,002.
