The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
WHAT: Half morning race, half sunset gala, the Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink raises funds for innovative research on cancer formation as well as cure and prevention. Co-chair Maria Baum, mother of four and the co-owner of Sag Harbor restaurant Tutto Il Giorno, serves as inspiration for the sporty event; the breast cancer survivor turned to stand-up paddleboarding to help her cope as she underwent treatment. “We are blessed to have Maria in our lives. She is a force of nature,” says Myra Biblowit, president and CEO of BCRF. In its third year, the competition will draw more than a hundred paddlers at various skill levels, while the evening celebration takes place at the home of Baum’s friends and fellow co-chairs Lisa and Richard Perry. Biblowit says the organization has raised more than half a billion dollars since it was established in 1993, supporting 217 researchers across six continents.
