Study for Diana Bathing Surprised by Actaeon
A drawing rendered in sanguine.
Rendered in sanguine, a mineral pigment contained in hematite, Charles-Joseph Natoire’s drawing is among the important sheets tendered by Parisian gallerist Eric Coatalem. The work, says Coatalem, is a study for the artist’s 1742 painting Diane et Actéon, which just sold last June for €762,500 ($859,000) on an estimate of €100,000 to €150,000 ($112,650 to $169,000) at the Parisian auction house Collin du Bocage.
The study is available from Coatalem for a more modest €30,000 ($37,000).
