Claude Monet’s circa-1865 India ink on paper is the only known ink by the artist. According to Parisian gallerist Helene Bailly, it was produced for an engraver charged with printing a promotional piece for Monet’s painting The Mouth of the River at Honfleur, which the artist was showing at the Salon des Beaux Arts. The painting is now in the collection of the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California. The asking price for the ink is in the €200,000 to €300,000 ($246,000 to $370,000) range.
