New York’s version of the International Expositions of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art (SOFA NEW YORK) will open its collection of contemporary decorative art and design to the public at the Park Avenue Armory from April 14 through 17. Tickets are $25 for a daily pass or $40 for four days’ admission, which includes a three-day lecture series with international scholars, artists, and curators, and the opportunity to view an eclectic mix of more than 150 artists and 55 galleries.
Keep an eye out for Jennifer Trask, who creates an assortment of stately art jewelry in organic shapes and forms. SOFA highlights the artist’s Acanthus Neckpiece, which is composed of recycled materials such as pre-ban ivory and antlers, trimmed with gold. Another standout SOFA artist, Michael Eden, marries traditional ceramics and digital technology; his use of non-fired materials in sculpture, such as nylon and mineral coating, are exemplified in his futuristic Grey Bloom. Both Trask and Eden will speak in the fair’s lecture series. (800.563.7632, 312.587.7632, www.sofaexpo.com)
