Sally Sirkin Lewis, who has spent nearly four decades creating designs for her Los Angeles–based furniture and textiles company, has introduced J. Robert Scott Ombré (, a finishing technique that leaves wood veneer with a gradient of color from dark to light. The proprietary process yields a watercolor-like glaze that varies in intensity depending on the surface on which it is applied. The Ombré finish comes in a variety of color schemes and can be applied to any of the company’s made-to-order pieces for a fee equal to 10 percent of the item’s original price.
