Many luxurious upgrades for the kitchen crowd the market, but few can top Baldassare Agnelli’s 18-karat-gold cookware (www.agnelliusa.com). Last fall, when the 107-year-old maker of fine cookware from Bergamo, Italy, opened a showroom in New York City that offers its full line, this premium collection of luminous gold pots and pans caused a stir. Prices begin at $1,500 for a small saucepan, and each piece can be customized with engraving or precious stones. Like the rest of the gold line, the medium-size pot shown here is also intended to be functional: The high heat conductivity of the shell and the pan’s copper core have made it a staple in some of Italy’s top professional kitchens.
