Desk lamps are perhaps the most utilitarian form of lighting. Their primary purpose is to keep your workstation well lit in the evening hours and, well, that’s about it. Because of this, their designs are often straightforward and spare. Bright colors and statement-making shapes may distract from the task at hand more than anything else, so a tried-and-true version with a simple shape will get the job done fine.
Still, like any element of your home or office environment, there’s room for personal style here. Different desk lamps will appeal to different people based on the way in which they work—those who need a lot of space to sketch, draw or jot down notes may prefer a smaller light, for example. More artistic types may want a lamp with a bit more color or pizzazz. Here, a few of our favorites to choose from.
