Speakeasy at 63 Wall Street

“We’ve worked on many residential buildings, including other conversions, but this is the first building with such amazing history and bones,” says designer Highlyann Krasnow.
“We’ve worked on many residential buildings, including other conversions, but this is the first building with such amazing history and bones,” says designer Highlyann Krasnow.
Preserving period details and original elements like the wood paneling, Krasnow executed brilliant restraint.
The bar was a custom project and features Calacatta Paonazzo marble and brass detailing.
Krasnow wanted form and function to meld into her overall design. To ensure that the bar worked properly, she was careful to create enough working space for the staff.
In addition to foot rests, bar seating, and hooks, Krasnow created structured seating areas, catering to larger groups, duos or solo patrons.
Custom banquets and upholstered pieces with classic looks were given a modern palette.
“We wanted to really honor the history of the room and the history of a speakeasy itself, dark and moody,” says the designer when asked what mood she wanted to convey.
“We have a very eclectic design aesthetic,” says Krasnow. “As each project based on the location and architecture of the building lends itself to a very different design direction, we have done everything from traditional to industrial to modern.”
