BOCA RATON, FL – MGS, which incorporates Swiss engineering with Italian design, presents Black Steel – a refined industrial finish in solid stainless steel bath fittings. Black Steel takes MGS’ already architectural, sleek bath and shower designs to a new level – creating an edgy, yet sophisticated aesthetic suitable for modern to contemporary bath environments. Through PVD, a process used to finish fine jewelry and watches and also used in the aerospace, military and high tech industries, the color penetrates the metal by molecular bonding, resulting in a smooth, durable matte black finish. MGS’ Black Steel offerings in widespread, single-hole, wall-mount sink fixtures and shower systems debuted in Milan earlier this month and are now finally available in North America.
MGS takes architecture, product design and refinement to a level of perfection, manufacturing every fixture with a sense of purpose, form and function. An in-house design team merges meticulous engineering and top craftsmanship for all their stainless steel products. Each piece is hand finished before assembly so that no joint or edge of the fixture is ignored. Stainless steel also offers the benefits of being non-corrosive, non-toxic, and non-porous – with the added plus of easy cleaning without using harsh chemicals.
More than a design trend, black finishes have gained popularity in architectural design, automotive and electronics, and the evolution into the home was inevitable. MGS engineers were ahead of the curve by incorporating this finish with the MGS aesthetic and their iconic stainless steel fixtures while maintaining the same quality, precision and durability expected of MGS. Architects to engineers appreciate stainless steel and PVD technologies, with the process used for many decades primarily in military applications to decrease friction wear on metal parts as well as the automotive industry. High-end watch and jewelry makers also incorporate the use of PVD into their designs to guarantee longevity and a smooth, luxurious finish.
“The use and application of black in design has continued to gain momentum throughout the kitchen and bath industry, so we are thrilled to add Black Steel to our bath designs,” said Vittorio Bergossi, director of MGS. “Our Onyx PVD, a gloss black finish, has been extremely successful and was recently introduced in a variety of our signature kitchen designs, so Black Steel was a natural and very necessary design progression. This luxurious, matte Black Steel finish accentuates the beautiful precision-machined details in each of our bath designs, from knurling on the handles to our signature MGS logo. The texture of our brushed stainless steel also creates beautiful variation in each Black Steel element. These effects put our meticulously crafted architectural bath and shower designs in a new category offering a black solid stainless steel PVD finish never achieved before in the plumbing industry.”
Aside from the aesthetic merits of a Black Steel PVD, properties such as strength, structure, chemical and temperature resistance and adhesion can be accurately controlled. Also in line with the health and long-wear benefits of using solid stainless steel, PVD is more environmentally friendly than traditional coating processes. There are no hazardous by-products, resulting in a durable, anti-corrosive finish. Using the PVD process also ensures that protective top coats are not necessary and that the finish is resistant to abrasion.

About MGS
MGS stainless steel fixtures merge Italian style and sophisticated design with the accuracy and attention to detail of Swiss engineering, precision manufacturing and uncompromising standards. Creating architectural plumbing fixtures for kitchens, bathrooms and outdoors, MGS represents the perfect harmony of aesthetics and technology. Since 1997, MGS has been one of the premier stainless steel fitting manufacturers in the kitchen and bath industry, as well as one of the few manufacturers to offer true stainless steel fittings in the world. MGS was founded near Lake Maggiore, a well developed industrial area in Northern Italy at the foot of the Alps that specializes in the production of high-end architectural products (including faucets) and, more importantly, in the stainless steel industry. While most competitors use brass, MGS uses non-toxic and naturally hygienic solid stainless steel. Furthermore, every element used to construct all fittings and accessories is hand finished prior to assembly, making each faucet durable and beautiful, with clean finished edges. Although this technique is more difficult and costly, MGS has dedicated their brand DNA to the pursuit of this practice. This design aesthetic and attention to detail resonates with discerning consumers and architects who appreciate the difference and uniqueness of pure design and functionality.
