Mercedes-Benz Influences New Furniture

Collaborating with Mercedes-Benz, the design team at the luxury furnishings company Formitalia has created a collection of seating, tables, and a bed that exhibit the legendary elegance of line that characterizes the styling of the German manufacturer’s classic cars. Seat backs, for instance, reference the seat shells of current research vehicles. Curved lines delineate different planes and sections of various pieces in a way that recalls Mercedes’ F 125 series of cars. A sideboard’s bifurcated front side resembles the air intake of sports cars. And the dining table also recalls, remotely, the work of French designer and architect Jean Prouvé, whose furniture mixed industrial metals with luxurious materials to at times reflect an automotive sleekness. The pieces are so new that pricing isn’t yet determined. The line will be available in October. (+39.0573.790066, www.formitalia.it)
