Inspired by an impressive antique from the 1860s, Charles Edwards has created the new Claybon Lantern. Whether hung above a large front door or used to line a palatial hallway or colonnade, the 1.6 meter (5 feet) Claybon Lantern engenders a sense of scale and classical grandeur.
Cast in brass, the Claybon Lantern can be made in virtually any finish or colour by Charles Edwards’ team of craftsmen. The original antique is available for £65,000, while a handcrafted replica costs £42,000.
The specially made glass panels for the Claybon lantern were so fragile that Edwards and his team decided to replace them with extremely high-grade perspex – which is not only visually indistinguishable from glass but also helps to decrease the weight of the 53kg original.
