For more than 30 years, the Manhattan-based architect Peter Marino (212.752.5444, www.petermarinoarchitect.com) has been known for the spectacular residences he creates, the striking flagship stores he designs for such brands as Chanel and Ermenegildo Zegna, and the biker-style attire that is his signature. Marino’s latest statement comes in the form of bronze cabinets that promise to be as enduring as their creator.
The Marino-designed cabinets made an appearance at the 26th Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris in September. Inspired by the bronze doors that Marino has created for residential projects over the years, the collection comprises seven different designs that are made entirely of poured bronze and, depending on the piece, are gilded, silvered, or blackened. “I love the sensual nature of bronze,” Marino says, adding that he chose the metal for its “enormous strength” and “enduring quality.”
Marino has produced only 12 examples of each of the seven cabinet designs (prices are available upon request). All of the pieces come with certificates of authenticity signed by the designer and the workshops of Ateliers Saint-Jacques.
