Shelton Mindel & Associates

Signature: “We’re problem solvers,” says Lee Mindel rather modestly. But, as he points out, “The solving of the problem transcends building and becomes an art form.” Regardless of the design genres they employ Shelton, Mindel spaces are always, he adds, “thoughtful, provocative, artful, and curatorial.” We’d add surprising to that list. No two spaces look alike, and even when working within a certain style—classicist, American traditional, ultra contemporary, casual beachy—you won’t get anything you’ve ever seen before. The firm is known for seamlessly integrating architecture, landscape, and interiors and has won countless awards. Most recently it was the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Cooper-Hewitt award for achievement in design.
