Surface Beauty

Last year, Lyle and Umbach introduced the Peregrine collection, which excelled in its array of small occasional tables swathed in all manner of luxe materials, including snakeskin, shagreen, parchment, tobacco leaf, pen shell, and mother-of-pearl. The company has just added a slew of new, ultrachic lighting, tables, and chests employing the same rich signature materials. “The shapes,” says designer Jared Wheeler, “are all based on the purity of geometric form.” They also manage to evoke exotic lands such as Morocco and China, as well as periods from Art Deco to contemporary. The line ranges from about $2,300 to $25,000. (646.344.1964, www.lyleandumbach.com)
