Like many vacation-home communities, the new Limassol Marina in Cyprus offers homeowners direct access to a beach. But this $470 million development in the eastern Mediterranean presents an even more compelling perk for boat owners: the ability to step directly from your residence onto your yacht.
Limassol Marina, which welcomed its first residents in January, is a resort community and superyacht facility located on the southern coast of the 3,572-square-mile island nation of Cyprus. Rising from reclaimed waterfront land near the center of Limassol, Cyprus’s second largest city, the development is currently offering 236 residences for sale. Options range from apartments and penthouses with sea views to villas that feature either direct beach access or adjoining berths for yachts as long as 197 feet.
The heart of the Limassol community is a waterfront village with boutique shops, restaurants, bars, a spa, a cultural center, a yacht club, and Cyprus’s first superyacht marina. The marina, managed by Camper and Nicholsons Marinas in partnership with the Cypriot firm Francoudi and Stephanou Marinas, is capable of accommodating as many as 650 yachts, ranging from 26 feet to 377 feet.
“Limassol Marina is firmly positioning Cyprus on the nautical map with its first superyacht marina on this scale,” says Paul Sorrell, the marina manager at Limassol. “It’s off the beaten path, but we’re creating a new cruising zone.”
Set at the crossroads of three continents, Cyprus indeed serves as a premier jumping-off point for cruising to destinations such as the Greek islands and the coast of Turkey. Limassol Marina facilitates such excursions for homeowners with amenities that include a 24-hour marina staff, concierge services, a high-speed fueling station, fiber-optic communication systems, and yacht maintenance facilities.
Homeowners’ time on land can be spent exploring the sights of Limassol—a modern city peppered with Byzantine and British Colonial architecture—or venturing to nearby beaches and ancient landmarks. Back at the resort, owners retire to residences with marble floors in the entrance halls, hardwood parquet floors in the bedrooms, and verandas with water views. Prices at the community, which is scheduled for completion in early 2015, range from about $495,000 for a one-bedroom apartment to approximately $8.6 million for a four-bedroom villa with a private 98-foot berth attached to its garden.
