Brunello Cucinelli

Brunello Cucinelli (212.813.0900, www.brunellocucinelli.it) once vowed never to introduce denim into his predominantly cotton-and-cashmere sportswear collection unless he could do so, as he did last year, with the same attention to detail and sartorial flair that he puts into his signature blazers and knitwear. Cucinelli cuts his jeans like trim-cut trousers and pairs them with rugby-striped cashmere polos and Fair Isle–patterned zippered cashmere cardigans, demonstrating that luxurious materials, time-tested patterns, and casual styling can effectively coexist. The designer was an early proponent of the tailored sport coat for men’s casual wardrobes, and he continues to develop ways to update the classic jacket. His cashmere flannel jacket, for instance, is almost completely unconstructed and weighs just over six ounces.
