Saying that checks are having a comeback this fall may be as groan-inducing as saying that florals are big for spring. But—bear with us—they do have a new attitude this season. Designers from Paris to Tokyo made checks of all stripes, from tartan and tattersall to gingham and glen plaid, a cornerstone of their fall collections. And while the patterns are traditional as can be, the overall effect was something unexpected: checks look fresh. Taken out of their usual country estate connotation, heritage textiles lose the tweedy, professorial vibe and offer urbane elegance. For work or weekends, here are three ways to wear them now.
