Marwood Unveils Spring Summer 2014 Collection

The Marwood’s SS14 collection was influenced by the contrast of man-made patterns with time-worn surfaces.

The colors came from time-worn interiors inside deserted Icelandic farm houses, captured by photographer Orri in a book that showcases photographs all taken on film. Orri was captivated by the beauty of what used to be bright, alive and once inhabited. He captured adjoining painted walls affected by time and neglect – dusty, dirtied tones of their original colors.

Using this influence alongside the contrast of monochrome mosaic tiles in old English hallways, the Marwood SS14 collection celebrates texture alongside clean, regimented lines and pattern. New silk woven jacquards were formed from ink-drawn tile constructions and a hand-drawn mosaic floor design became a trans-seasonal men’s wool/cotton shawl. New jacquards were created in conjunction with the Suffolk based silk mill.

The new range of accessories includes woven ties, scarves, luxurious jacquard pocket squares and a wide offer of self-tie bow ties as well as new colors in suspenders. Marwood’s lace neckwear is offered in washed-out khaki and brown silk linings behind ecru crest and mesh lace patterns. For evening attire the best selling mesh lace style has been reinterpreted in black lace over washed-brown silk.  Also, building on the success of last season’s mohair socks, a lighter transitional weight in a plain knit is offered for in a new range of hand-dyed colors. All products are designed, developed and made in the UK using English cloth or yarns.

Behind the scenes of the lookbook production

WATCH

The look book this season was shot by established portrait photographer Kate Peters. Having scouted out an old family home, a town house in Brockley, England, Peters moved in for the day to shoot the collection. The backdrop of this warm family home, passed down through generations, provided the perfect setting – original features, time worn surfaces and aged paint colors. The model was street cast. All the images were shot on film and developed in East London with Peters overseeing the whole process. The concertina construction of the book folds out to show the desert, sandy tones on one side versus the graphic, bold and clean lines on the reverse – a season of contrast.
