One of France’s Oldest Trunkmakers Comes to New York

Moynat’s handmade trunks, bags, and accessories are now offered stateside…

If we are not altogether familiar with Moynat ( here in the States, the French know it well: One of France’s oldest trunkmakers, the company began crafting fine travel pieces in 1849. Since its revival 5 years ago by LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault (Moynat had closed its doors in 1976), the Parisian brand has put a contemporary spin on its handcrafted bags, and recently opened its first U.S. store, on New York’s Madison Avenue. The new marquetry designs (small goods shown at bottom) feature bias-cut leather segments pieced together like a puzzle.
