One of France’s Oldest Trunkmakers Comes to New York

Moynat’s handmade trunks, bags, and accessories are now offered stateside…

If we are not altogether familiar with Moynat (moynat.com) here in the States, the French know it well: One of France’s oldest trunkmakers, the company began crafting fine travel pieces in 1849. Since its revival 5 years ago by LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault (Moynat had closed its doors in 1976), the Parisian brand has put a contemporary spin on its handcrafted bags, and recently opened its first U.S. store, on New York’s Madison Avenue. The new marquetry designs (small goods shown at bottom) feature bias-cut leather segments pieced together like a puzzle.
