Scabal offers more than 5,000 cloth weaves in its extensive archives of fine fabrics, including Dreamline, a rare worsted-woolen cashmere, and its recently introduced Riverside, a super 120s wool weighing less than 290 grams. Now the family-owned Belgian cloth maker has superseded all of its previous efforts with the September launch of Expression, an opulent suit maker’s fabric created from a rare blend of merino wool, vicuña, and chinchilla. “These precious, delicate fibers have been blended by the best weavers in our own Yorkshire mill in the heart of England’s textile industry,” explained Scabal head designer Michael Day, noting that the fabric was finished using an old-world “paper press” technique rarely used today that gives the cloth a soft, lustrous hand. “Not only is Expression one of the finest cloths ever produced, it offers tailors the support and drape required in the creation of a luxury garment,” added Day.
Expression has been created in 14 limited-edition patterns—from soft, variegated stripes to solids—and can be ordered for around $1,660 per yard through your own personal tailor. Many top brands, including Brioni, also carry the cloth, with prices on an Expression suit starting at around $28,000 depending on the amount of customization requested. (516.396.0580, www.scabal.com)
