Front Runners September 2015: Solid Footing

The Dutch shoe designer Louis Leeman ( opened his first boutique this summer, on Manhattan’s Madison Avenue, where he showcases his slightly edgy handmade footwear. With a fireplace and comfortable couches, the space feels more like an elegant living room than a shoe store. It also has a private “cobbler room,” where you can custom order sneakers or the designer’s signature loafers in various skins. Prices start at $600. “Men don’t have a lot of wardrobe choices,” says Leeman, “and shoes are one of the few ways they can play a little.”
