A 2-Month Tribute to Verdura and Belperron’s Avant-Garde Jewelry

Verdura is showcasing the works of two of the most important jewelers of the 20th century, Fulco di Verdura and Suzanne Belperron, during a 2-month exhibition and sale. The presentation at Verdura’s Fifth Avenue salon in New York will feature over 70 pieces that span the late 1930s through the 1960s. Signature designs include Verdura’s platinum-and-diamond feather ear clips, which were commissioned by Brooke Astor in 1956 as a pair of brooches. The set features 275 round diamonds weighing 16.58 carats, along with 16 baguette diamonds. Additional highlights include Verdura’s platinum-and-gold-wrapped heart-shaped brooch set with 109 canary diamonds and 271 white diamonds, and Belperron’s Whirl ring, with a 3.2-carat Burmese ruby at its center. The two designers are considered to have revolutionized jewelry design during their era. Each had a distinctive aesthetic, and they shared many clients, including Diana Vreeland; Wallis Warfield; the Duchess of Windsor; and Daisy Fellowes. The exhibition will be on view from October 17 through December 27 at Verdura’s salon at 745 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1205. (212.758.3388, www.verdura.com)
