For years, Parisian-born jeweler Robin Rotenier was known for his original, whimsical cuff links. Once, when a Hollywood executive needed an original gift for a producer, he called upon Rotenier to create gold cuff links in the shape of vintage movie projectors, with ruby and sapphire switches.

Rotenier is now exploring his more colorful side with one-of-a-kind jewelry designs that portray a vivid sensibility. Rotenier (212.768.1117) expresses his penchant for colored gemstones with new designs, such as an elaborate necklace that combines unusual shades of peacock, pink, purple, and gray-blue briolette-cut sapphires. Another style features multistrand marquise-cut rubies with a removable gold-and-diamond pendant. His personal favorite, however, is a collection of faceted black Tahitian pearls. “The faceted pearls are mesmerizing and mysterious,” says Rotenier. “They have the softness of a pearl but the sparkle of a precious gem.”
