FrontRunners: Cutting-Edge Creativity

<< Back to Robb Report, Luxury Preview 2014

A technique that combines ceramic with gold to produce surprising flashes of color is showcased in some of these rings from James de Givenchy for Taffin (www.taffin.com). Instead of working solely with gemstones and precious metals, de Givenchy prefers to use unconventional methods and materials when crafting his pieces. Examples of his creativity include a sparkling marquise-diamond ring set within a simple brown pebble (third from bottom) and an orange sea-coral ball ring with industrial-style brushed aluminum (fifth from top). Combining ceramic with gold is his latest approach. “Ceramic is fresh and fun, and I can personalize the color for every client,” he says. For the rings shown here, de Givenchy used—in addition to gold, ceramic, diamonds, and the other aforementioned materials—steel, platinum, tourmalines, spinels, orange and pink sapphires, emeralds, black jade, and chrysoberyl. The prices for the rings are available upon request.
