Stone & Strand is a new website offering an exceptionally curated selection by 24 fine jewelry designers, from contemporary cameo pieces by Amedeo, whose family has been hand-carving them since 1857, to rare opals from the Australian Katherine Jetter. Beyond finely crafted jewelry, the website also provides a behind-the-scenes look into the jewelers’ inspiration, studios, and techniques and has a personalized service to help clients find the right piece, or even custom order a design.
The website was established by Brooke Magnaghi, a former W magazine editor, and Nadine McCarthy Kahane, whose passion for jewelry led her to start the business. “Traveling the globe for work and leisure, I loved the anticipation of unearthing a rare treasure in undiscovered locations,” says Kahane, “and I want to bring this personal shopping experience to the web.”
The unique mix of hard-to-find designers and newcomers includes Daphna Simon, who studied goldsmithing under one of the most highly regarded artists in her home country of Israel and creates hand-sculpted animal pieces, and the Brooklyn-based goldsmith Jessica Fields, who creates one-of-a-kind gold and platinum pieces. Extra services include access to a stylist, personal shopper, gemologist, or antiques dealer, as well as after-purchase care for jewelry. (www.stoneandstrand.com)
