Back to the Drawing Board

Twelve years ago, when Marc Jacobs applied for the position of artistic director at Louis Vuitton, he created a design for a line of simple black, white, and gold watches as part of his submission. The collection, now rechristened Emprise, is finally being produced for Vuitton’s latest collection of women’s timepieces. The watch employs some of the French luxury goods house’s signature elements such as the metal-fitted corners of the rectangular case that resemble its trunk corners, and each bracelet is fitted with a gold piece reminiscent of its familiar lock. The 18-karat gold and baguette-diamond face with a white alligator strap (shown) is $59,000. (www.louisvuitton.com)
