Design Innovation: Ballon Bleu de Cartier Serti Vibrant
As early as the 19th century, jewelers were setting diamonds en tremblant, recognizing that a little movement would ensure that the stones sparkle. Often they mounted the diamonds to watch springs to create motion. Cartier has adapted this idea to the modernly styled Ballon Bleu de Cartier Serti Vibrant. Radiating rings of diamonds move subtly—and seemingly in unison—with the slightest jolt. The regular spacing of the stones and the black dial give the watch a fresh and futuristic appearance.
The 18-karat-white-gold case is set with pavé white diamonds.
Each of the dial’s 123 diamonds is placed on a concealed spring.
The hand-wound movement that powers the watch is ultrathin, creating room for the setting without compromising the Ballon Bleu design.
Cartier has produced a bracelet version of the watch in a limited edition of 20 numbered pieces.
