A Classical Offering from Franck Muller

While from the front it looks like an archetypical Franck Muller Curvex model, a look at the back of the new Cintrée Curvex 7 Day Power Reserve ($23,200) reveals a surprise. In place of the modern automatic movement that the company builds for many of its simpler men’s watches is a graceful hand-wound caliber of a style typical of the decades before World War II. The beautifully decorated bridges are cut in a fluid artistic pattern and the jewels are set in gold chatons. A slow-beat balance with a swan’s-neck regulator drives the watch instead of a modern, high-frequency construction. The movement is a tip of the hat to belle horlogerie and one that is very much in keeping with the spirit of the brand’s design. (212.463.8898, www.franckmullerusa.com)
