Daniel Roth Flexes Some Muscle

Known for elaborate timepieces that exude classical elegance and technical mastery, Daniel Roth added its first sport watch: Endurer ($14,300). While making a dramatic design departure from Roth’s standard fare, this decidedly macho watch preserves Roth’s emblematic design codes, most notably the double ellipse case—now upsized to 41x44mm, curved, and fabricated from steel with a black coating of BlackTich titanium carbide or from corrosion-resistant Marine Steel 4435 Staybrite. Powered by an automatic DR 1306 movement, the piece features a big date at 12 o’clock and a simplified chronograph function dubbed Chrono sprint, which measures long periods of time by indicating hours and minutes with two hands on one axis at 6 o’clock. The horizontal lines that carry over from dial to case to strap are a nod to the Japanese martial art of kendo, in which the kendoka wears a mask fitted with a metal grid. www.danielroth.com
