FrontRunners: Modern Rock

<< Back to Robb Report, Lean & Clean

While modern, high-design wristwatches for men have been a staple in Switzerland for years, it has taken the launch of an entirely new brand to apply the concept to the relatively staid arena of women’s jewelry watches. The Céphée Ether (, from the nascent Swiss company founded by watchmaker Christophe Golay, combines the traditional art of gem setting with futuristic techniques and shapes. Invisibly set baguette diamonds cover the Ether’s cylindrical face and complex multipart case, which is protected by a sheath of synthetic sapphire glass. The $350,000 timepiece’s feminine lines and delicate proportions are the work of Golay, who spent years creating custom watches for collectors.
