Glashütte Original’s Seventies Show

With its mod, cushion-shaped Seventies Panorama Date ($11,100), Glashütte Original flashes back to a nostalgic era of brawny muscle cars, Star Wars, and disco. While some of the decade’s fashions may prompt a chuckle, watch design made a significant contemporary leap with the introduction of Patek Philippe’s Nautilus and Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak, two long-lived models designed by Gerald Genta. Glashütte Original taps into that ’70s spirit with this retro design featuring German silver dials in three variations: matte galvanized silver, galvanized ruthenium with a sunburst surface, and blue with finely graded shading. Sleek arrow-shaped indexes and a big date at 6 o’clock set a modernist tone, which is underscored by the streamlined stainless steel bracelet and case, featuring a sapphire crystal caseback that reveals Glashütte’s tried-and-true Calibre 39-47 automatic movement.
