Maurice Lacroix Adds Gravity to Its Avant-Garde Masterpiece Collection

The new watch’s movement is outfitted with lightweight silicon components…

The Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity is the latest addition to the Swiss watchmaker’s Masterpiece Collection, which is home to its most avant-garde designs. As is customary of the collection, the Gravity features a sapphire crystal—but this one is domed, which magnifies the components beneath it and allows for better viewing of the operation of the escapement and balance wheel. Hours and minutes are displayed on a white-lacquered offset subdial that is also domed, which along with the watch’s layering of components gives the piece a distinct three-dimensional quality.

The Masterpiece Gravity’s automatic movement is equipped with a silicon balance staff, pallet lever, pallet staff, and escapement wheel and wheel pinion. These silicon components are lightweight and low friction, enabling more accurate timekeeping without requiring regular lubrication. The movement’s bridges and rotor are both decorated with a Côtes de Genève finish and are visible through the watch’s back crystal.

The $13,900 Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity is available with either a stainless-steel case or an anthracite-finish case. Both versions are limited to 250 pieces each. Deliveries of the Masterpiece Gravity began in October. (mauricelacroix.com)
