Rolex Daytona "The Unicorn" in 18 karat white gold
The Rolex Daytona Ref. 6265 is known as “The Unicorn” because it is the only white gold vintage Rolex Daytona known. It sold in the Phillips Daytona Ultimatum sale for $5.9 million, the second highest price ever paid for a Rolex. The Sigma symbol on the dial was used in Switzerland in the 1970s as proof that a watch was made of solid gold. There were very few gold Daytona models, and most were made for the American market. It was consigned by Italian watch collector John Goldberger, who acquired the watch eight years ago, and will donate proceeds from the sale to Children Action a Geneva-based foundation dedicated to helping the lives of youth.
