Modeled after Mogul palaces and traditional havelis, the Amanbagh is a regal oasis near the abandoned city of Bhangarh. The three-story structure that houses the resort’s library, Dining room, and reception area opens onto a 110-foot-long pool made of green marble and surrounded by mango trees. Its villas feature private pools and gardens overlooking a river and jungle populated by parakeets, mongooses, and monkeys. Accommodations Set within private gardens, the 16 pool-pavilion suites are the best options. The remainder of the resort’s 40 suites is housed within two-story, four-unit complexes. Recreation Day trips can be arranged to Ajabgarh Fort (a marble-faced temple with a 24-pillared open courtyard), Satimata Dham (a collection of temples), and the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary. Dining Western and Indian dishes in the Dining room or by the pool. Worthy Diversion The resort’s “cow dust” tour allows you to witness India’s most spectacular sunsets during an open-air Jeep drive through backcountry villages. Rates Suites from $600 to $950.
