In this age of austerity in Greece, modern magnates are keeping a lower profile by decamping from hard-partying islands like Mykonos in favor of the more sedate coastal terrain around Porto Heli. Perfectly paired to this stretch on the Peloponnese peninsula is Amanzoe, a low-key but luxurious new retreat from Singapore’s Amanresorts.
Richly clad in local stone and marble, the 38-pavilion property by architect Ed Tuttle sits atop a hill outside Porto Heli’s scenic downtown, offering nearly 360-degree views of the surrounding olive groves and the Mediterranean Sea. Each pavilion at the resort, which opens in July, extends to an ocean-facing deck with an infinity pool and a marble dining table that doubles as a base for an outdoor massage bed.
Outside their private compounds, guests can laze at the beach club or rise with the sun for tai qi or yoga in Amanzoe’s all-glass studio. Several historic sites—including the ancient amphitheater of Epidaurus, which still hosts top performers—are within a short drive of the resort.
