The mountain town of Andermatt has long lived in the shadow of its stylish ski-resort neighbors in the Swiss Alps. The new Andermatt Swiss Alps—a $2 billion mixed-use development located halfway between Zermatt and St. Moritz—is aiming to change that. The development is home to the Chedi Andermatt hotel (+41.43.344.62.52, www.thechedi-andermatt.com) and its exclusive collection of 119 residences set adjacent to the slopes. Debuted in December and still under construction, the Chedi offers 12 penthouses (priced from about $3.8 million to $13.2 million) and 107 one- and two-bedroom units (from about $2 million to $7.3 million). Some residences feature Jean-Michel Gathy–designed interiors with stone fireplaces, wood-paneled walls, and Hästens beds, while others can be custom designed. Home ownership comes with such resort perks as ski-butler and concierge services, as well as access to two restaurants, a spa, and Andermatt’s 80 miles of ski runs.
