Como Shambhala Estate, Bali, Indonesia

Since acquiring the property that would become Como Shambhala Estate, Como Hotels and Resorts has changed the name (from Begawan Giri), added a few private villas, and built a new spa, the Ojas, which includes nine treatment rooms, a yoga pavilion, a swimming pool, and a water-therapy pool. However, while transforming this 23-acre Balinese retreat into its flagship property over the past few years, Como wisely retained the original spa, the Kedara, which sits in a deep, dreamscape-like river gorge.

Alfresco treatments at the Kedara take place on wooden platforms that are surrounded by river-fed pools and jungle gardens. Guests at the property receive daily treatments at the Kedara, the Ojas, or elsewhere on the property as part of the wellness retreat’s three-, five-, and seven-night packages. The packages focus on one of five primary themes—cleansing, Ayurveda, fitness, stress management, or rejuvenation—and meals are tailored to the theme that you choose.

Located in clearings throughout the jungle, Como Shambhala’s five residences house most of the property’s 40 guest rooms and suites. Each of the teak-and-stone buildings includes its own communal living area and pool, while the resort’s five one- and two-bedroom Retreat Villas feature private pools and spa-treatment rooms. The resort also offers four two- and three-bedroom Private Villas, one of which includes a massive outdoor stone bathtub that sits at the edge of a Japanese water garden.
