Corinthia Hotel London

First opened in 1885—and having sat vacant since 2004—the former Metropole Hotel reemerged in May as the Corinthia Hotel London after a dazzling $495 million renovation. This significant sum included $1.6 million for a 1,001-crystal Baccarat chandelier—the largest ever created—that now hangs in the Corinthia’s Lobby Lounge.

Such extravagances seem appropriate in the grandiloquent Belle Epoque building, which is located near Trafalgar Square in London’s West End. The structure now houses 294 guest rooms, including a 5,000-square-foot Royal Suite set in a turreted tower. London’s largest two-?bedroom suite, the accommodation features its own walk-in wine cellar, private elevator, gym, and treatment room.

The Corinthia also is home to Harrods’ first-ever hotel boutique and a four-story wellness center by Espa. In addition to dining in the chandeliered Lobby Lounge, guests can eat and drink at the Bassoon bar (pictured), Michelin-star chef Garry Hollihead’s Northall restaurant, and Massimo Restaurant and Oyster Bar.
