Espa Transforms the Turkish Spa Experience

The new three-floor Espa spa at the Istanbul Edition hotel, designed by London-based Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), fuses modern chic with the traditional Turkish spa. Design elements include embossed bronze floors and horsehair-upholstered walls in stylized rooms, yet it offers classic treatments like the Turkish Indulgence ($320) in a hammam. The two-and-a-half-hour session begins with a steam room relaxation, followed by a body scrub and a wrap made of clay or marine mud and linens, and it finishes with an aromatherapy massage to release tension and restore energy. Among Espa’s modern services is the two-hour Body Sculpting and Firming ($255), noted for its detoxifying benefits: its special massage is said to tone and firm skin by stimulating the circulation and lymphatic systems. An additional portion targets areas prone to cellulite, fluid retention, and uneven skin texture.

The spa at Edition has 11 treatment rooms, including a VIP suite, a main pool with heated reclining loungers, a vitality pool with built-in massage stations and an air tub, a fitness center with personal training, a Bastien Gonzales manicure studio, and a café. There is also a snow cabin where guests can cool down after using Espa’s rock sauna and steam rooms. (+90.212.317.7717, www.editionhotels.com)
