The basement level of West Virginia’s Greenbrier hotel ( contains rooms that once were always booked for, though never occupied by, Beltway power brokers. The 1,100 bunks tucked behind a 25-ton blast door in the 112,544-square-foot facility, built by President Eisenhower during the Cold War, were reserved for government officials in the event of a nuclear attack. The bunker, which has been undergoing renovations since 2004, recently reopened to the public. Greenbrier guests may contact the concierge for a tour; others may visit the bunker on Wednesdays and Sundays for a $30 fee. . . .
