Great Barrier Reef Refuge: Hayman Beach Villas

Situated on privately owned Hayman Island, within Australia’s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the secluded Hayman Beach Villas offers luxury accommodations and some of the world’s best diving all surrounded by a pristine nature preserve that is home to wallabies and tropical birds, among many thousands of other exotic species. Designed by Australian architect Kerry Hill, each of the eight villas includes a private, open-air swimming pool, and nearly 1,300 square feet of living space. Floor-to-ceiling windows make the most of a stunning location, framing uninterrupted views out over the adjacent white sand beach and warm turquoise waters of the Coral Sea. Villas guests are attended to by Hayman’s butler service and have access to all Hayman Island amenities, including Spa Hayman, an expansive spa with 13 treatment rooms and beachside massage pavilions. Hayman’s six restaurants include 2010 Savour Australia Queensland “Award for Excellence” winner La Fontaine, serving contemporary European fare amid French neoclassical ambiance. In addition to world-class diving, recreation options include everything from yacht charters and helicopter rides to tennis and trail hiking. The villas start at approximately $1,600 per night.   (61.7.4940.1838, www.hayman.com.au)
