Sequestered in the Bernese Alps, the Gstaad Palace in Switzerland is an idyllic retreat for summer vacations or romantic escapes. Recently, the hotel’s rooftop Penthouse Suite was made even more opulent thanks to a renovation overseen by interior designer Marina Nickels. Its 2,583 square feet include three large bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and steam baths, a kitchenette, and a living room complete with wood floors, a fireplace, a dining area, and large windows overlooking the mountains. Decorated in muted shades of tan and cream, the suite exudes an understated, homey feel.

The surrounding 1,500-square-foot terrace features a rooftop hot tub and a sauna tucked into a turret. During winter months, the hotel offers private lift access for Penthouse guests who want to hit the slopes throughout the day. After working up an appetite, guests can dine at one of five resort restaurants that serve Swiss and Italian cuisine. Other on-site amenities include a fitness center, four clay tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor pool, and the Palace Spa that houses eight treatment rooms. Prices for a night in the Penthouse Suite start at around $9,000. (palace.ch)
