This spring will welcome the inaugural Bottega Gran Fondo to California’s Napa Valley. The celebrity chef, vintner, and ardent cyclist Michael Chiarello will host the two-day celebration of food, wine, and cycling, which will take place the weekend of April 12 and 13. While a long group bicycle ride will be a major part of the experience, the ride will be more for pleasure than competition. To that end, chefs including Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park in New York City will have rest stations set up along the course to provide flavorful respite for riders.
When registering for the event, participants select from one of several team leaders—including the former and current professional cyclists George Hincapie and Lucas Euser—as well as a riding distance of either 40 or 75 miles. All riders will follow the first 40 miles of the course, from Yountville to Howell Mountain and back, and then the long-range group will head west to Mount Veeder. The weekend will also include gourmet demonstrations, a luncheon hosted by Chiarello, a VIP dinner, and an exclusive film screening by the Napa Valley Film Festival. Registration from now until March 15 is priced at $275 per person. After March 15, the price increases to $325. The ride is limited to 300 people. Proceeds from the event will benefit three charitable organizations: the Napa County Bicycle Coalition, Community Health Clinic Ole, and the Napa Valley Vine Trail.
