Lake Como’s Grand Hotel Tremezzo Palace Unveils New Suites

The century-plus-old Italian hotel has added an entirely new floor with eight suites…

On April 14, when the Grand Hotel Tremezzo reopened for the season, the 92-room Lake Como palace celebrated the completion of a three-year-long renovation. After its 100th birthday in 2010, the hotel embarked on the facelift, and in 2012 it showcased an entirely new floor with eight new suites. This year, Tremezzo’s Lake View Prestige rooms and Aurelia Suite are in the spotlight. New closets, flooring, furniture, linens, and Verona-marble bathrooms grace the Lake View Prestige rooms (from about $680), which still boast lakefront views as their best feature.

One of the hotel’s four historic suites, the Aurelia Suite (from $1,150) was completely redone with a wood-paneled foyer, custom furnishings inspired by heirlooms of the family that owns the hotel, and a huge round bathtub. Aurelia herself, a 90-year-old member of the owning family, donated a few of the antique furnishings in the suite. Other high points of the property include its location directly facing the scenic town of Bellagio, as well as the hotel’s T Spa, where Espa was recently brought on to update facilities and treatments. Do not miss La Terrazza restaurant, where Chef Gualtiero Machesi serves a saffron risotto with a square of pure gold leaf. Make reservations before November 2, when the hotel closes down for the winter season. (+39.0344.42491, www.grandhoteltremezzo.com)
